Dental implants are an extremely effective way to replace missing teeth. After your dental implant surgery, remember to take it easy and rest for 48-72 hours. Resting helps your body heal and reduces the amount of bleeding that may occur. During this time, remember to drink plenty of fluids but to stay away from drinks that are very cold.
To help increase your comfort, you may want to apply an ice pack to your face for the two days following the surgery. Only apply the ice pack in 20 minute intervals. If your procedure included upper arch implants, avoid blowing your nose for about two weeks. Slight bleeding is not uncommon the two days following your surgery.
While you may experience some discomfort for the first two days after your surgery, you will generally feel better on the third. You may notice that your body increases by one or two degrees in temperature, but that is expected. In addition, you can eat when you’re hungry, but do not chew directly on the area of the bone graft.
