Following the removal of your wisdom teeth, our dentist will place a gauze pad over the extraction site. Before removing this pad, bite down on it for about 30 minutes. If the affected area is still bleeding, simply place a new gauze pad on the site until the bleeding stops. Do not drink from a straw or rinse your mouth as doing so may dislodge the blood clot.
The day of your surgery, remember to take it easy. You can continue on with your normal activities starting tomorrow. The dentist will prescribe pain medication to help reduce your discomfort after the local anesthetic wears off. Take this medication as prescribed. Continue to avoid drinking from a straw at this point so that you don’t disrupt your stitches.
