When the nerve of a tooth becomes affected by infection or decay, there are only two treatments available—extraction or root canal treatment. Root canal treatment consists of removing the infection from the inside of the tooth and replacing it with an inert material called gutta percha. During the root canal procedure, we make use of the rubber dam and surgical microscope to improve your care. We also use an electrical hand piece to make the process faster and easier; a method called “rotary endodontics.”

There may be some soreness following the procedure, but that is normal for most dental procedures. Over the counter painkillers are usually enough to relieve any discomfort afterwards, but we may prescribe other medications. The procedure will also relieve you from pain caused by the infection allowing you to enjoy all the foods you love without any pain from heat, cold, or biting too hard.
